What to Expect at Your Newborn Photography Session in Noblesville

I want to answer all of that for you, because I know how much easier it is to enjoy an experience when you know what's coming.

The Best Time to Book

The sweet spot for newborn photography is between 5 and 21 days of life. Babies are sleepier and more curled up in those early days, which makes the gentle posing you see in newborn portraits much easier to achieve. That said, every baby is different, and I work around your little one's needs no matter what. If you're reading this while still pregnant, reach out now, and we'll hold a spot around your due date.

What the Session Day Looks Like

Most newborn sessions at my studio in Noblesville run about three hours, and that timeline exists entirely for your baby's comfort. We're never in a rush.

We'll work through a variety of setups together: wrapped poses, prop poses, and portraits on the posing table dressed in custom-made outfits. If you'd like family portraits, I start the session with that portion first. That way, if siblings are in attendance, they don't have to spend the last two hours in a warm studio — they can head out once their part is done.

Between setups, we pause as often as needed for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes. A relaxed baby makes for better photos, and a relaxed parent does too, so we take it slow and follow baby's lead.

What I Provide (Hint: Everything)

You don't need to bring a single prop, outfit, or accessory. My studio is stocked with everything: wraps, hats, headbands, baskets, buckets, blankets, and a full wardrobe of boutique outfits sized for your tiny newborn. We'll talk through your color palette and style preferences ahead of time so the setups feel personal to your family, not generic.

How to Prepare Your Baby

Before your session, I'll send you a prep packet email that walks you through everything you need to know and how to help get baby ready. A few things make a real difference for how smoothly the session flows:

Feed right before you come. A full baby is a sleepy baby, and sleepy is what we're going for. Try to time the last feeding so baby finishes eating just as you're arriving, or feed in the car right before you come in.

Keep baby warm. Newborns settle much better in a warm environment. My studio is kept cozy on session days, so dress baby in a simple sleeper that's easy to take off when you get here.

Don't worry about the outfit. Seriously. Baby will be in my studio wraps and outfits within minutes of arriving, so whatever they show up in is just fine.

Bring the pacifier if you use one. Even if baby isn't a big pacifier fan at home, it can help with soothing between setups.

Give yourself grace. There is no perfect way to do this. Babies cry, they need extra feeds, they take a while to settle. That's completely normal, and it's already built into our time together.
